get hired quickly while others don't?
I believe that...
- You deserve to have a job that you love.

remain out of work. - You deserve to get hired quickly!
For 15 years I was a frustrated corporate recruiter!
I reviewed countless numbers of resumes and interviewed thousands of people, but was unable to tell them the secrets as to why I couldn't hire them. Then, I became Absolutely Abby, with the mission to unveil these secrets to one million job seekers.
My insights and tips have been shared on television, radio, print, and the web on these and other sources:

I’ve hired a lot of people. I’ve been a recruiter at many levels and in many industries for the past 15 years and I’d estimate that I’ve had a hand in hiring at least 10,000 people. That’s a lot of people! To find those diamonds in the rough, I had to cull through an estimated 500,000 resumes.
There’s nothing more exciting than being able to offer someone a job! It delights me to play matchmaker between great talent and an open position. But my profession is not all rainbows and sunshine. I can’t hire everyone – I really wish I could. For every person who I place in a new job, there are always dozens, and sometimes hundreds of great people I couldn’t hire.
I’d like to share with you the secret behind why one person gets hired, while dozens of others get passed over. I’ll give you a hint: most of the time, it’s not simply a matter of experience or even money.
Before I share that secret with you, it’s important that you first understand a little bit more about the recruiting process from the inside out.
A recruiter like me doesn’t actually make the decision to hire you.
Recruiters do make many decisions about who not to hire. We sift through stacks of resumes and make quick decisions about each resume in under 10 seconds. Then we pick a handful of candidates we’d like to know more about.
The next part, you already know. We’ll call you up for a “phone screen” and then, if you are lucky, an in-person interview. You’ll wear your best freshly pressed suit and do everything you can to impress the pants off us.
But, you know you aren’t out of the woods yet. There are always other candidates that you are competing with. And somehow it always seems that what follows next happens behind closed doors like some top secret project.
What you need to understand is that as a recruiter, it is my job to “sell” you to the hiring manager. While I only get to spend an hour or so with you, the hiring manager is making a commitment to spend the next few years of his or her life with you. Considering this, they can be quite particular about their decision, and so they should!
Of course, I have to believe that you are qualified for the job, but my reputation is on the line here too. Too often I see great talent within each candidate, yet it’s hidden by rough edges that I fear a hiring manager might not be able to look past. My job is on the line here. I can’t take a risk by sending in a rough candidate to the hiring manager.
Too often I wish I could sit down with each candidate and polish them up before the next interview phase. I’d help prepare them for this critical meeting with the hiring manager. I’d coach them on what to say and what not to say. I even wish I could sit there during the next interview and whisper the right words in their ear that would WOW the hiring manager.
But sadly, this game doesn’t work like that. You need to be prepared for this critical interview on your own. My job doesn’t give me the opportunity for more than a few seconds to prepare you. Thus, you need to know what to say to teach me (the recruiter) how to best sell your unique skills to a hiring manager. When you are out of work, this is your job.
Over the past 15 years, I’ve grown very frustrated not being able to present all of these great candidates like you because of their rough edges. One day, not too long ago, I sat down and started to write down my thoughts – the secrets candidates need to know. Not just how to get noticed and land an interview, but how to really shine through the process and ultimately land a job, with pay they deserve and responsibilities that give them a chance to contribute to the world.
